Managing Live Classes in Blended Learning: Schedules, Attendance and Recordings Belong in One Place

When live classes sit in a meeting tool, attendance in a spreadsheet and recordings in a folder, both instructors and students get lost. How to make live classes part of the course itself.

In blended learning, live classes are no longer the exception but a normal part of the weekly schedule. Yet in many organizations they are still managed outside the learning platform: meeting links are sent by e-mail, attendance is kept by hand and recordings wait in a shared folder. The result is lost links, inconsistent attendance and recordings students cannot find.

From schedule to session: no more manual links

The term's class schedule is already known: which course, which section, which day and time. Live class sessions should be generated from that schedule, taking holidays and exam weeks into account. If meeting accounts are limited, automatically distributing them among classes that overlap in time removes a large operational burden.

One click for students

Students should not have to search their e-mail to reach a live class. When the class starts, a "Join class" button should appear on the student's home page and course page, and instructors should be able to start the class from their own dashboard. Offering the schedule as a calendar file lets students see their classes in their own calendar app as well.

Attendance: reliable and visible

Live class attendance should be taken from the meeting tool and recorded in the course. Students should see at a glance which weeks they attended over the term, and instructors should notice students who miss several classes in a row without waiting for the end of term. Early warning is the most effective way to stop absence turning into failure.

Recordings: inside the course

Class recordings should sit on the course content page next to the relevant week. Streaming playback, audio-only listening and viewing progress tracking make sure students who watch the recording are followed up as well.

  • Are live class sessions generated automatically from the term schedule, including holidays and exam weeks?
  • Can meeting accounts be distributed automatically among overlapping classes?
  • Can students and instructors enter the class in one click from inside the platform?
  • Is attendance recorded automatically, with early warnings for absences?
  • Are recordings offered inside the course, with viewing progress?
A live class is not a meeting living in a separate tool; it is part of the course itself.
